Case 1:
Signalment:
Ox. Mature aged dairy cow, euthanised as a cull and submitted
for routine post mortem examination.
Clinical signs:
The cow appeared in relatively good health prior to death although
there was a history of traumatic reticuloperitonitis approximately
8 months prior to death.
Other information:
Traumatic reticuloperitonitis results from the piercing
of the wall of the reticulum by pieces of ingested wire etc. This casuses
the release of bacteria into the peritoneal cavity and clinical signs
of abdonimal pain, fever, inappetence and inflammation of the peritoneum.
Antibiotic treatment often saves the animal but peritonitis often results
in fibrous adhesions between various abdominal organs and also the abdominal
wall.
