Introduction

Exercised Incduced Pulmonary Haemorrhage:

EIPH is a condition of racehorses that have repeated episodes of haemorrhage into the lungs, leading to chronic haemosiderosis.

Haemosiderin accumulates in macrophages within 14 days following an episode of EIPH in a horse. This is a typical cytology following lung lavage.

7 days later the haemosiderin has been processed into small dark granular intracytoplasmic accumulations within the macrophages.
