Introduction

Gross Findings:

After your clinical examination you inform the farmer that you think that the cow has a chronic disease process that is unlikley to respond to treatment. The farmer gives permission for you to perfom a field post mortem to see if you can determine a cause of the gradual weight loss and loss of milk yield. When you cut into the mammary gland you note that there are numerous multifocal firm, nodules composed of caseous material with a gritty consistency at their centre, throughout the mammary gland. You submit some material for culture and some for histopathology.
