Case W881/78 - Multiple bone lesions in a young goat

Histroy:

9 month old crossbred goat that was found comatose in a ditch. The animal had bradycardia, hypothermia, pallor and diarrhoea. Necropsy showed emaciation, ascites, anaemia and enteritis. There were 18,000 Trichostrongylus colubriformis in the intestine.
Frontal bones were soft, there was osteopenia of long bones and multiple fractures of the ribs bilaterally.
