Introduction
   

Nodular Hyperplasia of the Thyroid:

History:

A 10 year old, domestic shorthair (DSH) cat presented with weight loss despite having a good appetite. The cat's coat was unkempt, and the general demeanor of the cat was anxious to aggressive. Polyuria (excessive, frequent urination) and polydipsia (excessive, frequent drinking – of water) were also present.


Thyroid Gland (x40). Note wide variation in size of follicles with a very large degenerate follicle (F) in the centre of a hyperplastic nodule. (Arrow shows diameter of thyroid nodule.)
