Introduction

In the ossification zone, thin layers of pink osteoid are deposited by osteoblasts on columns of blue mineralised cartilage to form the primary spongiosa trabeculae of the metaphysis.

In this low power view, abnormal islands of cartilage, partially encased by bone, are visible within the epiphyseal bone.
