Introduction

History:

5 year old dairy cow presented with signs of dehydration and shock. Pasture fed, supplemented with grain.

Ruminal contents - watery, with a porridge-like consistency. Grain kernals are clearly visible.

Ruminal mucosa (x 100). The surface epithelium is degenerate, being vacuolated and invaded by inflammatory cells in some areas.
