Case 4:

History:

Adult monkey. This monkey presented in a coma with diarrhoea staining around the anus. Body temperature was 35 C. The monkey was given subcutaneous fluids. This animal was housed in the same room where Salmonella spp infection had been recently diagnosed.


Small Intestine (x200). Severe loss of villi (villous atrophy). The surface mucosa is ragged and attenuated in some areas. The lamina propria is heavily infiltrated by macrophages and lymphocytes.
