Small intestinal mucosa.

A Peyers patch is clearly visible, due to the necrotic mucosa covering the surface. Many different bacterial species invade the specialised M cells which cover the Peyers patches, including Salmonella spp, Yersinia spp, Rhodococcus spp and Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis.
