Case 1:
History:
A 6 month old greyhound pup presented with a history
of poor weight gain since birth and intermittently abnormal behaviour
for the preceding 3 months, including bouts of depression and mental dullness.
On physical examination, the pup was ataxic, depressed and salivating
profusely. It had earlier in the day been observed to be chewing rocks.
The owners elected for euthanasia. At necropsy, the liver was uniformly
reduced in size and a large intrahepatic vascular shunt was detected.
This is a low power view
of the fourth ventricle, with the overlying cerebellar vermis and
the underlying pons. At this magnification, coarse vacuolation of
pontine white matter is apparent.
