Case 2:
History:
A 3 month old Merino lamb at pasture was presented with
a history of sudden onset of severe dyspnoea, depression, recumbency,
tachycardia, respiratory râles and a temperature of 40.0o C. The
lamb was euthanised. At necropsy, fibrinopurulent exudate was present
in the hock, stifle and carpal joints, the lungs were diffusely congested
and oedematous and a thin film of suppurative exudate was present on the
ventral aspect of the brain. A pure growth of E. coli was cultured
from a meningeal swab.
This is a low power magnification
of the ventrolateral aspect of the anterior cervical spinal cord.
Note the distension and hypercellularity of the meninges.
