Case 6:
History:
Female Curly coated retriever, aged 2 years.
Normal oestrus
Sex chromatin noted in neutrophils
Enlarged protruding clitoris and narrow short vagina
Submitted for ovariohysterectomy
Gross pathology:
At surgery structures resembling testis were present in the abdomen
near the kidneys, and these were not within ovarian bursa
There was a bicornuate uterus
In the clitoral region, a phallus of connective tissue was removed
Histopathology:
The phallus did not contain erectile tissue, had a duct lined by stratified
squamous tissue, and was mainly fibrous and smooth muscle
The uterus has normal histology, but beside each horn has a ductular structure
resembling vas deferens, embedded in the uterine wall
The gonads were hypoplastic testis
Diagnosis:
Male pseudohermaphrodite
Testicle. Tubules are small,
mainly contain Sertoli cells and there is increased interstitium that
contains low numbers of Leydig cells (x40)
