Case 2:
History:
Female Collie, aged 2 years with chronic weight loss
Mass in mid abdomen
Laparotomy discovered an ovarian abnormality and the ovary was removed.
Gross pathology:
Multilobulated, multicoloured ovary of massive size (20x18x12 cm)
Remainder of reproductive tract normal
Primitive dysplastic nervous tissue
Teratoma showing skin-lined cysts, cartilage, bone
and nervous tissue
Ovarian Teratoma:
Teratomas arise in the gonads of either sex and may even
occur congenitally.
There are both benign and malignant variants.
Teratomas are characterized by an irregular mix of tissues derived from
all three cell lineages.
