Introduction

Case 4:

History:

Mixed breed, middle aged bitch presented with a firm, pale pink, smooth mass protruding from the vulva.
Excisional biopsy submitted.

Gross pathology:

Tough fibrous mass that merged with perivaginal tissues without clear margins.

Leiomyomas:

Leiomyomas and fibroleiomyomas are the most common stromal tumour of the uterus and vagina. They are generally slow growing but surgical excision can be difficult if they involve the tissues in the pelvic canal. Epithelial tumours and lymphosarcomas also commonly affect the uterus. Smooth muscle cells have pink cytoplasms and blunt-ending sausage shaped nuclei.
