Case 2:
History:
A 4 month old male English mastiff presented with a 2 month
history of poor weight gain, lethargy, depression and intermittent vomiting.
A complete serum biochemistry and haematology panel confirmed the presence
of renal failure and a moderately severe non-regenerative anaemia. Ultrasound
examination revealed both kidneys to be small and misshapen. A decision
was made to euthanise.
This is a low power view
of the outer renal cortex. Note the undulating capsular surface
which is consistent with a misshapen and possibly scarred and contracted
kidney.
Bowman’s spaces surrounding the glomerular tufts are markedly
dilated.
