Case 1:
History:
Thirty maiden ewes died in a mob of 500 sheep, within
3 weeks of shearing. Affected animals were in good nutritional condition
and had been regularly drenched. Those that died tended to separate themselves
from the rest of the flock, became recumbent when driven, developed mucoid
to blood-stained diarrhoea, were clinically depressed and developed bradycardia.
Death tended to occur within a few hours of onset of clinical signs.
This is a low power view of
the outer renal cortex of one ewe. Many of the tubules are dilated
with flattening of the lining epithelium; some tubules contain protein
casts.
