Introduction

At higher magnification of the junction of mucosa and submucosa, rafts of haphazardly oriented, atypical, pleomorphic epithelial cells have breached the original mucosal basement membrane and are invading the superficial submucosa.
The lymphocytes and plasma cells are probably responding to abnormal antigens of these carcinoma cells.
