Introduction

The antebrachial muscles were of variable colour, with some areas shrunken, pale, marbled and firm and other areas of a more normal red-brown, well-fleshed and moist appearance. The pale zones affected the bulk of the common and lateral digital extensor muscles but there was less obvious involvement of the extensor carpi radialis muscle. The flexor muscles of the antebrachium appeared unaffected.
