Case 1:
Signalment:
5 day old Thoroughbred colt, which had had a difficult
birth but appeared normal until 3 hours prior to presentation.
Clinical Signs:
The colt presented in a collapsed state and was difficult to rouse
from its stupor. It had a fever of 40.8 degrees celsius, heart rate of
145, deep purple mucous membranes of the mouth, and weak peripheral pulse.
Other information:
Plasma electrolyte levels were normal, and there had been adequate
passive transfer of immunoglobulins.
What emergency treatment would you provide for this animal?
