Introduction |
Ileum:Histology revealed extensive necrosis of the ileal mucosal epithelium, resulting in ulceration. Proteinaceous material had mixed with the necrotic cells to produce a pseudomembranous fibrinonecrotic exudate (diphtheritic membrane). The exposed submucosa contained an inflammatory infiltrate of neutrophils and some lymphocytes.Dx: Acute severe diffuse fibrinonecrotic enteritis |
