Introduction

Case 5:

Signalment:

7 year old dairy cow

Clinical Signs:

The farmer has noticed that the cows face is no longer symmetrical. On palpation you notice a large mass on the left mandible that is variable very hard in places and soft in other areas. You make a presumptive diagnosis of lumpy jaw. As this particular cow is a poor milker and reaching the end of her current lactation the farmer decides to cull the cow. Out of interest you ask the knackery to save a piece of the lump in formalin which you then submit for histopathological examination.
