Veterinary Pathology - Necrosis

Introduction

Fibrinoid Necrosis:

A particular form of necrosis which occurs when complement activation of antibody-antigen complexes, deposited on vascular endothelium, causes neutrophils to release lysosomal enzymes which result in death and necrosis of the vascular endothelial cells. This inflammatory reaction is associated with fibrin deposition in the damaged vascular wall, hence the term fibrinoid necrosis. This process is commonly associated with a type III (immune complex) hypersensitivity.
