Clinical History

8 year old Corgi with progressive exercise intolerance and coughing. On physical examination, a cardiac murmur was detectable. A palpable fluid wave was present in the abdomen. At necropsy, the lungs were heavy, wet, rubbery and dark red and there was blood-stained foam in the trachea. The mitral and, to a lesser extent, tricuspid valves were thickened and distorted. The liver and spleen appeared congested and there was blood-stained fluid in the peritoneal cavity.
