Case 1:
Clinical history:
A nine week old unvaccinated puppy was presented with
severe lethargy and bloody diarrhoea. Despite intensive fluid therapy
the animal continued to deteriorate and died overnight. At post mortem
the puppy was dehydrated, there was subserosal intestinal haemorrhage.
The serosal surface had a granular apperance and Peyer's pathces were
visible as multifocal deep red oval areas in the intestine. There was
moderate to severe congestion of the gastrointstinal mucosa with patchy
areas of the mucosa coated with a fibrinous exudate. It was difficult
to identify a thymus in the animal despite its young age. Some tissue
thought to be the thymus was submitted for histopathological assesment.
Thymus (x40)
There is moderate to severe congestion throughout the
tissue
