Introduction
   

Skin:

Typical histological appearance of a squamous papilloma. Only the superficial epithelial layer is affected, where it is thrown into multiple folds. The epithelial cells are well-differentiated and the architecture is orderly.

 

The epithelium of the hair follicles is also thickened, and is producing excessive rings of keratin, around a central hair (arrowheads).

 

Mitotic figures are rarely seen in the basal layers. Occasional areas of individual cell death are present. (pyknotic nuclei – arrows)
