Introduction

At medium magnification, both focal and diffuse gliosis and Wallerian degeneration are apparent in the spinal white matter, with ongoing phagocytosis of myelinic and axonal debris by gitter cells. The gliosis reflects both astrocytic and microglial proliferation.
