Primary Exocrine Pancreatic Atrophy

Diffuse and uniform atrophy of the exocrine acinar cells of the pancreas results from protein-caloric deficiency (e.g. starvation, chronic cachectic illnesses and maldigestive disorders) and can also arise from specific deficiencies of essential amino acids or of trace elements (e.g. zinc, copper or selenium).
