Case 1:
Signalment:
18 month old steer.
Clinical signs:
One of a group of apparently healthy steers shipped
to a feedlot. A small number of the steers became acutely lame and some
died within 1 to 2 days of arrival. Fever was noted in some affected animals
but antibiotic therapy did not appear to help. Examination of the mob
reveals that a number of them are bruised and have minor scratches as
a result of a rough truck ride.
Other information:
Questioning of the farmer supplying the steers reveals
that the mob had not been vaccinated.
