Veterinary Pathology - Necrosis

Introduction

Fibrinoid Necrosis:

The development of fibrinoid necrosis is dependent on the presence of large quantities of antigen-antibody complexes and thus is either an autoimmune response or reflective of a chronic viral or bacterial infection. The arthritic changes are similar in development to the vascular lesions with the deposition of immune complexes and another favoured site of deposition is the glomerulus of the kidney.

Ancillary tests

Confirmation of fibrin as the pink material accumulating in place of vascular walls can be obtained by positive staining using what technique?

Identification of immune complexes requires specific immunological staining of the tissues.
