Veterinary Pathology - Necrosis

Introduction

Caseous Necrosis:

A special form of necrosis which is often associated with the centres of focal mycobacterial infections (particularly tuberculosis). The name caseous is derived from cheese which is descriptive of the gross white pastey appearance of these lesions. Histologically the centres are composed of amorphous granular proteinaceous material surrounded by a ring of granulomatous (lymphocytic and macrophages) inflammation.
