|  |  |  |    The nodular hyperplasia of 
        the hepatic parenchyma is not necessarily related to the steroid hepatopathy 
        in this dog. Multiple hyperplastic nodules are common and incidental findings 
        in older dogs’ livers. Nodules alone, without accompanying evidence 
        of tissue damage and fibrosis, should never be misconstrued as being indicative 
        of cirrhosis (end-stage liver). It is common to see non-specific hydropic or fatty degeneration of 
        cells within some hyperplastic nodules. Some nodules may resemble reversed 
        hepatic lobules by having portal areas at the centre rather than central
