Our History
Best Beef Quality Foods Pty Ltd (BBQF) is a medium-sized gourmet food producer providing products from paddock to plate. We create easy to cook meat products starting from our abbatoir with the selection of beef cuts, through to our packaging line ensuring our consumers have ready to cook meals. We wholesale and retail our products to discerning consumers across Australia.
BBQF was established in 2006 by the current managing director Frank Best, who acquired the site of Uncle Barry’s Beef – a medium sized meat processing and packaging operation. Frank believes that gourmet beef products are the future for beef consumption and has a vision to be the market leader for gourmet beef products in Australia. Frank turned the old site into a facility to grow an expanding wholesaling business whereby a range of gourmet products are on-sold to retail outlets, restaurants and cafes. More recently BBQF has opened a small shopfront retail outlet, right beside the factory and warehouse in Gippsland.
Our suppliers
BBQF sources all of their beef from farmers in the Tarago Catchment. This is a region of good soils and high rainfall (average 1100mm) even though the catchment does experience drought from time to time. We have a good relationship with our farmer suppliers, who grow pasture-fed beef to strict quality standards. We source different beef animals of various breeds and at various ages to meet our customers’ demands for quality beef, tailored to seasonal menus. Our suppliers run herds of 50-500 head on small to medium sized farms. Most of our suppliers are family farmers, many of which have been growing beef for 3 or 4 generations. Best Beef maintains supplier agreements, assessed annually for compliance with animal health guidelines and principles of environmental sustainability. We work in partnership with our suppliers to ensure a consistent supply of beef for BBQF and ensure incomes to farmers are fair.
