Mitotic division of cells in the epithelial layer have returned the epithelium (E) to normal thickness over the incision and keratinisation has begun to occur beneath the scab (S) (soon the scab will fall off). Beneath the basement membrane of the epithelium, granulation tissue (G) is still apparent although very little inflammatory reaction remains.
