Introduction

Primary Intention Healing :

Successive incisions were made in the skin to allow the comparison and progression of primary intention wound healing at times (1hr, 8hr, 1day, and 2 days) after incision.

1 hour: the skin deficit is filled with blood clot, which will dry out and form a protective scab.

Guinea Pig Skin Incision 1 hour:

This is a 1 hour old incision (I) through the epidermis and dermis of a guinea pig. Note the epithelial and dermal deficit which is lined simply by coagulating fibrin which contains erythrocytes (E). There is minimal tissue damage with only structures immediately in the incision line being lost.

Guinea Pig Skin Incision 12 hour:

A fibrin clot containing erythrocytes (coagulum) has formed (C) to fill in the deficit and neutrophils (N) have moved in & line the wound edges (forming a barrier against bacteria and removing any necrotic cells).

Guinea Pig Skin Incision 24 hour:

A fibrin clot containing erythrocytes (coagulum) has formed (C) to fill in the deficit and neutrophils (N) have moved in & line the wound edges (forming a barrier against bacteria and removing any necrotic cells).
