Introduction

Granulation Tissue:

Granulation tissue has a particular gross and histological appearance.
The gross appearance is of a slightly granular surface (hence the origin of the term granulation), is bright red and oedematous, and tissue bleeds easily (due to high number of proliferating capillaries).

The histological structure of granulation tissue is highly organised, with collagen fibres organised along lines of tension, so that they usually run parallel to the epidermal surface. The blood vessels grow perpendicular to the epidermis. Thus a mesh work pattern of tissue is created.
