Introduction

Osteosarcoma:

History:

8 year old Rottweiller with sudden onset of forelimb lameness. Radiography revealed a small lytic lesion in the glenoid cavity of the scapula. The lameness became more severe and the dog was euthanised.
On gross pathology, a section through the glenoid cavity of the scapula revealed a 1 x 1.5 cm area of pallor in the subcortical bone, surrounded by a thin rim of haemorrhage.

Low power view of osteosarcoma. There is a variation in cell density and the type of bone produced. (x40)
