Skin Incision - day 12:

Haematoxylin & Eosin

By this time the epidermis has returned to near normal appearance, although the dermal connective tissue below it still consists of numerous fibroblasts and randomly orientated immature collagen fibres (G). Hence the tensile strength of this region of tissue is not as great as it should be and the region will not gain full strength until the collagen fibres are remodelled into organised bundles as in adjacent areas (C).
