Squamous Cell Carcinoma:

Squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) are malignant neoplasms arising from squamous epithelium (eg. squamous mucosa of the oral cavity, pars oesophagea of the stomach, epidermis of the skin) or from sites of squamous metaplasia of other mucous membranes (eg. conjunctiva, bronchial mucosa, bladder mucosa etc). Squamous cell carcinoma is a very common skin neoplasm arising in areas that are sparsely haired and non- or poorly pigmented. Ultraviolet radiation is implicated in induction of this tumour in exposed sites. SCC of the eyelid of cats is a very common tumour.
