Exercise 2

During this exercise you will be shown a number of important principles associated with the course including practical anaesthetic techniques used for dogs, methods of acheiving haemostasis during surgery and familairization with the function of our Central Sterile Supply unit. 

a. Canine Anasthesia

The standard protocol utilised in anaesthetising dogs for the surgical exercises in both second and third year will be demonstrated in this exercise.

b. Haemostasis

Methods and equipment use in achieving haemostasis during a surgical procedure will be demonstrated, including the use of instruments and electrocautery equipment commonly used in veterinary surgery. 

c. Central Sterile Supply

Activities within CSS, including instrument cleaning, packaging and sterilisation will be demonstrated during a tour of the facility.
